MICHAEL SLAGER DESERVES THE DEATH PENALTY

As you may have read, in one of my past posts about the death penalty, I only support it in the most heinous of crimes and where there is a preponderance of evidence with absolutely no doubt of the condemned's guilt.  Well, it seems to this blogger that the Michael Slager case satisfies both criteria.

In case you live under a rock, Michael Slager was a police officer in North Charleston, South Carolina, that is up until he fired 8 rounds at Walter Scott, who was running from him after a traffic stop for a busted taillight, (Scott also had an arrest warrant for failure to pay a substantial amount of back child-support payments) that resulted in a short struggle between the two.  Five rounds found their mark in Scott’s back who expired at the scene.  Slager was fired from the department immediately after a video of the incident surfaced, which depicted a vastly different scenario than Slager’s account of the incident. (http://www.businessinsider.com/north-charleston-police-officer-michael-slagers-account-of-police-shooting-2015-4)

The video below shows Scott being shot in the back (murdered) by Officer Slager.  Warning, the graphic content in this video may be upsetting to some viewers.

North Charleston PD also released the dash-cam footage from Slager’s police cruiser.  This video shows Scott running from his car within a few minutes of being stopped by Officer Slager.  Unfortunately the alleged struggle between the two was not (that I know of) caught on camera.

If either of these videos are removed, or the links no longer work for any reason, just search YouTube for them, I am sure there are several copies floating around.

According to ex-Officer Slager, Scott ran from the scene and Slager caught up to him after a brief foot chase.  Slager tried to deploy his Taser, but Scott fought back, grabbed the Taser from Slager and ran away.

In the video showing the shooting, Scott appears to be running away empty handed and there is an object that falls to the ground at Slager’s feet (the Taser?)  Scott runs away, unarmed, and gets about 20 yards away before he is felled by Slager’s barrage of gunfire.  Slager immediately radios in that there have been shots fired.  He then approaches Scott ordering him to put his hands behind his back.  When Scott doesn't comply (because he is unconscious or already deceased) Slager, places Scott’s hands behind his back and handcuffs him.  It should be noted that Scott is in unresponsive, and lying in the prone position (on his belly).

Slager than retreats back to the position from where he fired the shots, picks up the object, (the Taser?) then walks back over and drops it next to Scott’s body.  By this time another officer (Officer 2) has arrived on scene and can be seen standing over Scott’s lifeless body.  The two stood over Scott for a minute or so, and then Officer #2 walks out of view of the camera, as Slager bends down and appears to be checking Scott for a pulse.  A few minutes later (the video stops and restarts) two more officers arrive and appear to be attempting to render aid to Scott.  Scott is STILL in the prone position, which discounts Slager’s report that they attempted CPR on the victim.  I spent a dozen years as a volunteer firefighter and EMT, and I have never seen anyone try CPR with the victim face down.  Scott died at the scene from his wounds.

As you can see, the video record of the incident is vastly different from Slager’s account.  So, not only did he shoot an unarmed man in the back, while he was running away, but he lied to attempt to cover up what he did.  Thankfully, a brave citizen had the fortitude to start recording the incident, and keep recording throughout, capturing this dirty cop in the act resulting in one less bad cop on the streets.

Yes, I believe Slager is a prime candidate for the death penalty.  Slager said he “feared for his life”, which may very well be true because we don’t see what transpired during their alleged struggle.  However, once Scott turned his back on Slager and was running from him, unarmed, he was no longer a threat, and he certainly didn't deserve to die.

WHY USE A BANK TO SAVE MONEY? GOLD VS. THE DOLLAR.

Want to start a savings plan?  Here is one for you.  Pull all of your savings out of the bank, buy a heavy-duty, fire-proof safe, and put your money into gold.  Not a "certificate", but real, hard, tangible gold; coins, bars, bullion, etc.

Not only does gold provide a hedge against inflation, but by keeping your own wealth in your hands, you have total control over it.  Why would you keep your money in a bank that's giving you 1/2% interest while they loan out the same money at 9, 10, or even 15%.  Why make the Banksters rich?  They don’t create wealth; they just move it from an entry on one spreadsheet to another.

There is a finite amount of gold in the world.  It takes much effort to mine, process, and get that gold out on the market.  Not to mention, gold has been considered a symbol of wealth for thousands of years, and that's not likely to change.  Here is a little lesson in gold vs. the Dollar.  A little over one hundred years ago, a man could buy a top-of-the-line suit with a $20 gold piece (an ounce of gold).  Can you buy a top-of-the-line suit with a $20 bill today?  No way!  But you could take that same one ounce gold coin and buy that suit!  See what I mean?

Gold doesn't really appreciate in value (until the world's supply runs out) over time, it's the value of the Dollar that depreciates due to inflation, which means it takes more Dollars to buy the same amount of gold.  A paper Federal Reserve Note, isn't worth much at all. (it costs less than 6 cents to print).  It's not backed by anything, and the only reason a $10 note is worth more than a $1 note, is because the government says it is.  There is no tangible or intrinsic value to paper money, and the government just prints it out of thin air!

KEEPING YOUR WINDOWS MACHINE SAFE ON THE INTERWEBS

Since I bought my first computer back in 1997, a blazing fast Packard Bell with a whopping 28 Megs of RAM and a huge 2.1 GB HDD, I logged thousands, if not tens of thousands of hours on the internet.  My name is The Bluesman and I am an addict.

One of the first things I learned, way back then with my blazing fast 52 kbps dial-up AOL account, was how to keep others out of my PC.  I faced all sorts of threats, from the “Script Kiddies” lurking in chat rooms running punters, and their ilk causing chaos with all manners of other “proggies” on the network, I learned very quickly, that I had to protect myself.  Then there were the more nefarious attackers, with auto-dialers, root kits, key stroke loggers, and browser hi-jacking viruses.  I enjoyed the freedom of visiting any website I desired, but learned very quickly that freedom came with a price.  Over the years, I managed to become infected numerous times, and several times, so badly, that I just re-formatted the HDD and re-installed Windows rather than try to find the solution on the internet.  The causes of most of my problems were from downloaded “cracks” or key generators for software I didn’t intend on paying for.  Those applications rarely did what they claimed to do, and often times came with a Trojan Horse of some sort.

Fast forward eighteen years.  I no longer download “Warez” or Torrents, and my internet use is benign, almost boring, being used mainly for research and watching (my guilty pleasure) “The Trailer Park Boys” on Netflix.  What I want to share with you today is how I keep my PC and internet experience safe and secure.  It’s easier than you think, costs nothing, and pretty much runs itself.  I put a link to all of the applications I run at the end of this post.  All of them are free, and highly recommended.

Virus Protection
I’ve tried a myriad of anti-virus programs, but the one I have been using the longest, and has never let me down is Avast.  Its basic protection is free, and it keeps an eye on the websites you visit, the applications you download, and it automatically updates with new virus definitions at least once daily.   Since running Avast, I have had ZERO problems.  No infections, no spyware, malware, etc.  Best of all, it doesn’t bog down your computer like some others (Ralph Cramden’s upstairs neighbor) that come pre-installed on your machine.  It runs in the background, you won’t even know it’s there, until it alerts you of a threat.

Scripts and Tracking
You would be astonished as to how many scripts are running on the average website that have absolutely nothing to do with serving the content on said site.  There are social media scripts, targeted ad scripts, click-bait, and sorts of marketing and tracking scripts with the intention of keeping track of where you go, what you’re shopping for, and how to make revenue off of your visit.  For example, on CNN.com, there are 13 trackers running on their homepage alone, 12 on the FOX News site.  It’s no one’s business what you do on the web, and for that, there is Ghostery.  Ghostery, also free, is a browser extension (I use Chrome) that monitors and blocks scripts on a website.  It’s fully customizable allowing you to White list certain scripts, or you can block them all if you wish.  Ghostery ads a bit of transparency to your browsing experience.

Ghostery, and the 13 tracking scripts it’s blocked, running on CNN.com

PC Cleaning and Health.
Spend just an hour online, and your machine will gather all manner of Cookies, Temporary Files, and other files that take up space on your PC.  It’s a good idea from time to time to delete all of that crap, and clean up your computer.  That’s where CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) comes in.  CCleaner (yep, it’s free) will perform a scan of your computer and create a list of cookies, temporary internet files, browser history, and allow you to delete them all, or choose which ones to keep or delete.  You can also choose which cookies you want to keep or delete, and you scan Windows Registry for errors and fix them automatically.  CCleaner also offers the ability to overwrite what you’ve deleted, increasing your privacy.

ADBlock
AdBlock is a “must have” browser extension.  Like its name denotes, it’s an application to block ads.  AdBlock is awesome, another free application, and it runs in the background monitoring every website you visit blocking ads.  It even blocks those stupid “click-bait” ads.  You know the ones I am talking about, “Ten Hollywood actors you didn’t know were Transvestite Nazi Eskimos”.  Right.  AdBlock blocks ads, pop-ups, automatically opening browser windows, and is customizable so you can unblock ads, pause it, or disable it on certain pages, or entire domains, if you so desire.  AdBlock is worth its weight in gold!

Below I have provided a list of links to all of the applications I’ve mentioned here.  Go ahead, download and install them and start protecting your PC right now!

THE STRANGE JOURNEY OF MY FED-EX PACKAGE...

Out of curiosity, I started following a fellow on YouTube who is an avid metal detector and relic hunting enthusiast.  After a few weeks of watching his videos, and seeing the the amount and types of things he has uncovered, I was hooked  So, after some research, I have decided to buy my own a metal detector and get into the hobby myself.  Spring is upon us here in the beautiful Commonwealth of PA, and I am experiencing a bit of cabin fever after our long (and colder than usual) winter.  I enjoy being outdoors, I definitely need the exercise, and these hunts offer a great opportunity for my daughter and I to spend some quality time together.

So, last Friday March 27, I finally narrowed it down to two detectors, but eventually decided on the (rookie) detector of my liking; the Garrett ACE 250.  It has a solid reputation, parts are easy to find, it comes with a Two-Year factory warranty, and best of all, it's MADE IN THE USA!  I read countless reviews, watched dozens of demos and live digs on YouTube, and studied its pros and cons.  Armed with pretty much all the knowledge I needed to dip my tow in the cold waters of entry level detectors, I went internet shopping.

There are several websites dedicated to the sales of this type of equipment, and they offer really good prices.  Since I am an Amazon Prime user, I took a look at what they had to offer.  I found the ACE 250 at a fantastic price, and of course FREE Two-Day shipping with Amazon Prime (which I have to tell you, is WELL worth the money.  So, I look over the item to ensure it's the exact model I want, double-check the feature sets, read the reviews past buyers have left behind, looked up the seller's info, and when I was satisfied I was doing the right thing, I clicked "Add to Cart".  A few more clicks to confirm my info, and my purchase was complete, and my new Garrett ACE 250 was on it's way.

On it's way.  Well yes, I assume it is, because the E-Mail notification and tracking info from FedEx said it will be here tomorrow (Monday, March 30) because I paid an additional $7 to have it here Monday, rather than Tuesday.  I am like that.

So a after a few hours, I check the Tracking# that was provided and discovered that my package was only an hour and-a-half away from me.  "Great", I thought, I will have this thing bright and early Monday morning.  W00t!  Then I notice something else, my package is at FedEx's Middletown (Harrisburg) distribution facility already!  Since the Middletown facility is only an hour from my house, I figure that it's going to be loaded on a truck there, then sent to my local facility, put in a van, and it would be en route to me.  Awesome.  Except this is where it gets weird.  The next tracked movement of my package has it departing the Middletown, PA facility, and en route to...

...Newark, NJ.

Well, that's odd that my package was a mere 50 miles from me, and it's now nearly three times that distance away in NJ!  What?  Yeah, well it get's even more weird.  After arriving at Newark, my package gets on an airplane, and is now listed as enroute to...

...Memphis, TN.

What?  That's right!  On Sunday morning, around 8 AM my package arrived in Memphis.  I not sure why my metal detector went on the Smoky Mountain tour, but it did.  For about eight hours.  But then, as of 4:24 PM Sunday, my metal detector departed Memphis, TN, enroute to...

...Middletown, PA

Right back where it started from, which is where it is right now as of 10:28 PM.  What?!?!  This is odd, and most certainly had to be some sort of "sorting" error, and when realized it was sent back via the most expeditious manner possible.

Anyway, I am still set for a guaranteed delivery on Monday (tomorrow) by 8:00 PM.  I'll keep watching the tracking data I get to make sure it's not on its way to my house via Tuscaloosa.  At this point, it wouldn't surprise me!

So, any FedEx folks reading this, want to fill me in as to why something like this would happen?  Your anonymity is guaranteed, and no, I am not angry with FedEx, just extremely curious as to why my package was sent on the route that it was.

OK folks, that's all for now.  I'll let you know when I get it and try it out.  -- TB

SPECIAL ADVISEMENT DUE TO FREQUENT HUMAN-BEAR ENCOUNTERS…

Not everything here is serious. Here is a little humor courtesy of The Bluesman.  Enjoy!

WARNING!:  Due to the frequency of human-bear encounters, the Montana Dept. of Fish and Wildlife is advising hikers, hunters, and fisherman and any persons that use the out-of-doors in a recreational or work related function to take extra precautions while in the field.

We advise the outdoorsman to wear little noisy bells on clothing so as to give advance warning to any bears that might be close by so you don't take them by surprise.

We also advise anyone using the out-of-doors to carry "Pepper Spray" with them in case of an encounter with a bear.

Outdoorsman should also watch for fresh bear activity, and be able to tell the difference between North American Black Bear feces, and Grizzly Bear feces.  A Black Bear feces is smaller and may contain berries and squirrel fur.  A Grizzly Bear feces contains small bells and may smell like pepper.

Thank You.

Michelle Obama was a man named Michael LaVaughn Robinson?

This is one of the latest conspiracy theories circulating on the internet, and it’s absolutely ridiculous.  In case you haven’t heard (or seen) this crap, allegedly Michelle Obama was born Michael LaVaughn Robinson.  Apparently this “info” was supplied by an anonymous White House Obama staff member and the according to various sources on the interwebs, he/she (no pun intended) states;

Michelle Obama, First Lady of the United States, was born Michael LaVaughn Robinson in Chicago, Illinois on January 17th, 1964.  He was the second son born to Fraser Robinson III, a well known cocaine dealer and union thug for Crime Lord/Mayor Richard J. Daley, and Marian Shields Robinson, a transient street prostitute who was diagnosed with the HIV virus in 1998."

Most obviously, the poorly done Photoshopped image of what is supposed to be Michelle Obama (#44 with red arrow) before the “sex change”, posing with four others in football uniforms.  It should be noted that all of the subjects in the photo have their faces superimposed over the original players.  The photo in question (below) was either taken from, or made with yearbookyourself.com

I am not sure why this photo accompanies the article as it does more to shoot down this conspiracy theory than it does to back it up.

Now I understand there are several satirical websites poking fun at this, but there are countless people on YouTube and the internet at-large that actually believe this to be true!  Seriously, people? I guess the tongue-in-cheek comment that Joan Rivers made before her death was taken seriously and literally by the tin-foil hat crowd.  The internet picked it up and ran with it (pun INTENDED).  See the video here… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Et38_Ufv-Jw  Furthermore there are now reports circulating that President Obama had Joan Rivers killed in retaliation for “outing” their secret.  Pardon the internet slang, but ROTFLMAO!

Now seriously people, let’s think about this for a moment and try to use your head for something other than a hat-rack.  Look at Malia (The Obama’s eldest daughter), her resemblance to the First Lady is uncanny!  I guess Mr. Robinson had the entire female reproductive system implanted in his body during his sex change, right?  There is no doubt whatsoever that she is her mother’s daughter.  See the photos below…

Malia & Michelle Obama.
